"Ship deck chronometers were the inspiration in developing the Simplex automatic. They were used to determine your current position with the help of a clock, sextant and mathematic formulae, and were mainly used for naval purposes. As a result, they had to be tough, robust, extremely reliable and readable even under extreme conditions. The Simplex is driven by an automatic calibre with a date display and an additional weekday display at 12 o’clock. The dial consists of large, flat, luminous figures, index markers and rather more restrained minute markings to satisfy the need for functionality. The case dispenses with unnecessary decoration and the crown is robust enough to be operated even when wearing gloves. A sapphire glass front and admirable water resistance are indispensable features of this model. The case diameter of 44 millimetres also makes the Simplex conspicuous in terms of size. A sturdy stainless steel links bracelet or a simple black leather strap with light stitching underscore the functional design and yet serve to gives this series an aura that transcends the fleeting moment.
